Description
This drawing, has uh... not aged well to say the least.
Spoilers for Adventure Time, but here are some things that came out about the show that "debunk" this drawing:
- Princess Bubblegum is an incarnation of the Candy Elemental and a byproduct of the Mother Gum, which is an entire hive mind composed of, you guessed it, bubble gum, not a human injected with a substance that turns them into bubble gum (what the fuck; also no, that's not a joke, that's actual canon). Plus, according to sources, at the age she would've probably been in the drawing (maybe 13-14 or so?), she emerged and lived after the Mushroom War that would not really make it possible for her to be injected before she was created/born.
- Also, the Hive Mind, as well as Bubblegum themselves, don't have any known origins but (in addition to being implied to be simply mutants) make no mention of a scientist creating them. The closest to a "scientist" is either Simon, who became the Ice King, and Finn's mother, who as far as the show goes, does not mention Bubblegum or the Mother Gum itself being part of an experiment in some capacity. Same goes for Simon/Ice King, since we never really see anything related to Simon and Mother Gum aside from one scene in Simon & Marcy (even then, it's more of a "here, have this thing that will help your daughter" rather than familiar greeting or anything of the sort), and that's it.
My possible guesses for why the website mentioned being created by a mad scientist, then deleted:
- Red Herring
Think about it. What better way to throw people off and surprise everyone for PB's origin episode than by creating a fake origin story/character and pulling the rug? Homestuck (as controversial as it is nowadays) did something similar with Caliborn/Calliope by creating a fake "troll" version of them before revealing their true species. Who's to say that this wasn't something similar made by someone on CN or by one of the Adventure Time crew? Plus, having it be deleted might create some wild guesses and speculation for what the following episode(s) might contain.
- Early Draft for Origins
In all likelihood, this is the most reasonable explanation for this strange detail: it was an early draft for PB's possible backstory and it was deleted due to it being scrapped early on, not to mention it being no longer canon due to the events with PB and her origins. It's likely that they didn't want this outdated information getting in the way of actual canon, so they deleted it to save the headaches.
But, despite this, I do love the drawing itself, taking an idea that was probably from an early version/red herring and turning it into an interesting concept! While not canon, I could see this as a possible backstory for an AU or something. Good work!
